First, I must apologize for being MIA the last few weeks, as I have had major fluctuations in my schedule. The good news: on my way to work at David Jones 2 weeks ago, I stopped for a coffee at a cute cafe a few blocks from my house and noticed the "waitress needed" sign. After chatting with the owner, we confirmed my trial day for Sunday for an hour, and then I informed him that I would be at work the following five days for my first shift; effectively letting him know that I was perfect for the job and that he would love me... and he does. His name is Greg, he's 50 some odd years old, has three kids ages 7,9, and 11, and has not had a day off since January 22 of this year. I'm not joking, he arrives at work 7 days a week at 6am and we close at 6pm. I work Sunday through Thursday 8:30-6; needless to say we spend a lot of time together, and it's nice. He bakes almost all of our pastries at the shop, so each day around 4:00 we have fresh warm flourless chocolate cakes, or banana bread, blueberry friands, triple berry muffins coming out of the oven. A lovely afternoon treat with tea. Also, I get to bring in my own Ipod, which is a HUGE positive aspect to my job. Listening to my own music makes my day just that much better. Greg likes my music so far too, which is good. I'm very happy at work, constantly busy, and they customers are local regulars that come in every single day. It's also been interesting to have so many people ask me where my accent is from; I have always wanted to have one :) Most people think I'm English, some think Irish, but no one ever guess I'm from the U.S. Strange.
Secondly, on my way home from work today I ran into my next door neighbor who informed me of the renovations to the exterior of our house that will commence in the near upcoming weeks and last for several months. Additionally, three large units across the street from our house are being leveled next month and huge "luxury" apartments will be erected. Awesome. I'll be moving thank you very much. Although my house is rad and right across the street from the beach, I would love a little tucked away cottage a few blocks back. The street I live on is very noisy, populated, and exposed. So the search is on, I'll keep you posted on the journey. I think I should be alright, the people here are quite good, and hopefully I'll find a good spot to settle in to.
As I write this, there is a gnarly lightening storm outside my window. I've never experienced lightening above the ocean... this is cool.
Aside from this, not much has changed. I quit David Jones pretty much on the spot and have been hustling ever since. I am very happy with the change. Sorry that I have no pictures to share this time, and that my posts are first drafts. I haven't much time or energy to check what I randomly blurt out; hopefully it's enough to keep you abreath and know that have yet to be eaten by a shark! Missing and wishing you all well. Enjoy that hot summer where ever you are!
